The Democratic Republic of Congo is preparing for its 4th electoral cycle scheduled for December this year. During the 103rd meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Friday July 7, 2023 at the Cité de l’Union Africaine, the President of the Republic Félix Tshisekedi stressed the importance of rationalizing government actions for the second half of the ‘year.
In the minutes of the meeting read by government spokesman Patrick Muyaya, Felix Tshisekedi recalled his instruction given at the 92nd meeting of the Council of Ministers. He asked each member of the government to integrate the government’s action program like a compass and to favor actions having a real impact on the life of the population.
President Tshisekedi also demanded that each minister produce a realistic, clear and detailed roadmap for the last half of the year, accompanied by a precise and realistic timetable of priority actions. This approach aims to provide better visibility of the government’s action.
At the same time, Félix Tshisekedi asked Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde to present a consolidated government roadmap that takes into account the cash plan for the period concerned.
It should be recalled that the current government team, led by Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde, is the fruit of the new coalition put in place by Félix Tshisekedi. This coalition was formed after the breakup of the FCC and CACH alliance which linked Félix Tshisekedi to Joseph Kabila.
Nearly two years after his formation, Félix Tshisekedi carried out a technical reorganization of the government at the beginning of the year, leading to the departure of certain ministers and the arrival of new politicians, like Vital Kamerhe at the head of the ministry. National Economy and Jean-Pierre Bemba at the Ministry of National Defense and Veterans Affairs.
Félix Tshisekedi’s mandate was marked by many challenges, particularly in terms of security, economics and justice. The President has made the fight against corruption and the improvement of the living conditions of the Congolese population priorities of his government.
It now remains to be seen how this rationalization of government actions will take place and what the concrete results will be for the Congolese people
