News: Meeting between the President of the CENI and the British Ambassador to discuss the electoral process in the DRC

On July 6, the President of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), Denis Kadima, met with the British Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Alyson King, to discuss the ongoing electoral process.

During this meeting, Alyson King spoke to the press, rejoicing in the fruitful discussions she had with Denis Kadima. The latter informed him of the progress of preparations for the next presidential and legislative elections to be held in December 2023.

The British Ambassador stressed the importance of transparency and credibility in an electoral process. She also expressed her country’s willingness to support the CENI as a funder, offering technical support and deploying local observers to build confidence in the process.

Denis Kadima briefed Alyson King on CENI’s efforts to complete the electoral process. He also referred to the meetings he had with members of the opposition, stressing the importance of communication with all stakeholders. He also discussed the challenges faced in voter registration, especially in conflict-affected areas.

Britain wants the elections in December to be conducted in a fair, transparent and inclusive manner, and will work closely with the CENI to achieve this goal.
