“Security concerns in Beni: MP Celse Muhindo Magezi sounds the alarm and calls for urgent measures”

Provincial deputy Celse Muhindo Magezi is sounding the alarm on the security situation in the territory of Beni, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In a context marked by massacres, burning of vehicles and other acts of violence, it highlights the logistical problems and the reduced strength of the Congolese army, despite the support of the Ugandan army.

According to Celse Muhindo Magezi, some leaders of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo neglect the alerts of the population, as was the case during the Kasindi massacre. He also underlines the lack of support from the soldiers, which leads to a certain passivity.

The elected representative of the territory of Beni pleads for taking into account the alerts of the population by the FARDC (Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo) and for a reinforcement of the Congolese army in terms of logistics and support for soldiers. He also insists on the need for a dialogue between the security forces, NGOs and the population, in order to create a civil-military marriage and put an end to insecurity.

In his exchanges with General Dic Holumu, who supervises the joint operation between the Congolese army and the Ugandan army, Celse Muhindo Magezi asked to expand the radius of action of this operation to cover a larger area, in particular the mountains of Kizumbura, Ruwenzori, Bashu, Kilindera and Mabuku. He believes that the enemy moves freely and that the joint operation must intervene everywhere, especially in the Far North.

The MP also highlights the socio-economic consequences of insecurity in the Grand-Nord region, in particular the closure of roads and the isolation of the population. He calls for an improvement of the situation to allow the economic development of the region and relieve the population who suffers from the consequences of insecurity.

Celse Muhindo Magezi claims to have received assurances from General Dic Holumu as to the measures taken to restore peace in the region.

In conclusion, the security situation in the territory of Beni in the Democratic Republic of Congo remains worrying. Logistical problems and the reduced strength of the Congolese army are major obstacles to effectively combating insecurity. It is urgent to reinforce the Congolese army, to take into account the warnings of the population and to widen the radius of action of the joint operation with the Ugandan army. An inclusive dialogue between the security forces, NGOs and the population is also necessary to find lasting solutions to the insecurity in the region
