Joseph Kabila participates in political discussions to improve the electoral process in the DRC

Article: Joseph Kabila participates in political discussions on the electoral process

Recently, the President of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), Denis Kadima, invited the former President of the Republic, Joseph Kabila, to participate in discussions on the ongoing electoral process in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This invitation follows discussions already held with opposition leaders and Adolph Muzito.

Denis Kadima sent correspondence to Joseph Kabila, informing him of ongoing discussions with other opposition leaders and requesting a meeting with him. The objective of these meetings is to closely examine the electoral process and to propose solutions to ensure its transparency and fairness.

However, Joseph Kabila’s political family, the Common Front for Congo (FCC), has set certain conditions for participating in the electoral process. In particular, they demand a “consensual” CENI leadership team as well as a “non-subordinate” Constitutional Court. They are also calling for an “inclusive” electoral law guaranteeing transparency and equal opportunities for all participants.

According to the FCC, the voter registration process was marred by fraud and irregularities, rendering the electoral process unreliable. They claim that minors have been illegally recruited and that several people have several voter cards. These elements point to chaotic and fraudulent elections.

In reaction to this situation, the FCC decided not to support “the dictatorship of Mr. Tshisekedi” and not to participate in the elections which they consider to be fraudulent. They believe that this would have dramatic consequences on the future of democracy and the Republic.

This invitation from Denis Kadima to Joseph Kabila therefore marks a turning point in the electoral process in the DRC. Ongoing discussions with the various political actors aim to find solutions to guarantee fair and credible elections.

It remains to be seen whether Joseph Kabila will accept the invitation and whether these discussions will lead to concrete steps to improve the electoral process in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The political future of the country largely depends on it
