Training Workshop on Human Trafficking Case Management – Kwilu, DRC
The Coordination in charge of youth, fight against GBV and human trafficking, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and with the financial support of USAID, launched a training workshop on the management of cases of human trafficking. This workshop is taking place in Kwilu Province, Democratic Republic of Congo.
The objective of this workshop is to strengthen the capacities of front-line actors involved in the care of victims of human trafficking. During three days, participants will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the principles, techniques and instruments of human trafficking case management. They will also be trained in DRC-specific case management, so that they can pass on their knowledge to their respective colleagues, networks and sectors.
This training is all the more important since according to a recent joint study carried out by the ILO and the IOM, more than 50 million people in the world are victims of human trafficking. They are trapped in forced labor, sexual exploitation, domestic servitude, organ trafficking, forced begging, debt bondage and forced recruitment into armed groups.
Faced with this alarming reality, it is essential to strengthen the skills of actors in the field and to strengthen institutional capacities. This is why this training workshop is so important. Ely Thelot, IOM Technical Advisor, points out that many cases of human trafficking have been identified in Kwilu province, which makes the training of social workers all the more urgent.
Henri Pami Mayala, member of the coordination of youth, fight against GBV and human trafficking, underlines the commitment of the Presidency of the Republic to fight against human trafficking and train social workers to identify and the care of victims.
This training on the management of human trafficking cases is therefore a crucial step in the fight against this scourge in the DRC. By training frontline actors and building their skills, it is hoped to be able to provide better assistance to victims and help end human trafficking in the country.
