In this extract from the article “The security situation in the DRC: the update during the 125th weekly government meeting”, we highlight the current security issues in the country. The Prime Minister, Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde, led the meeting in the absence of the President, highlighting major security concerns. The general situation is relatively calm, despite persistent pockets of tension in the east of the country. The actions of Loyalist Forces against the Rwandan army and M23 terrorists, as well as the hunt for ADF/MTM terrorists, are at the heart of concerns. The determination of the FARDC to protect the population is underlined, in particular their progress in Masisi against the Rwandan army. Securing the eastern region is a priority, with vigilance maintained against incursions in the west. The actions of the Mobondo are closely monitored, strengthening patrols to ensure the safety of citizens. A visual spotlight on FARDC soldiers in action in Masisi could increase public awareness of their courage and dedication.
