The Beni region in the Democratic Republic of Congo has long experienced conflict and insecurity. However, during a major dialogue on security governance, local actors committed to restoring peace. Youth groups planned to raise awareness on civic education and disassociation from armed groups, while women’s organizations pledged to promote lasting peace and greater participation of women in conflict resolution. The political-administrative authorities are also committed to improving security governance in the region. These initiatives offer hope for change for the future of Beni and deserve to be supported.
