The elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in December 2023 are of paramount importance, but they face many challenges. The European Union (EU) expressed its support for the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) and underlined the importance of responding to the criticisms and concerns expressed by opposition political parties and civil society organisations. Security, the humanitarian crisis and the participation of all citizens are major concerns. The international community must continue to support and provide the necessary resources to guarantee free and fair elections in the DRC.
