Lubumbashi, the capital of the province of Haut Katanga in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is preparing for the next elections. A recently published opinion poll reveals the voting intentions of the inhabitants, with 7% in favor of Jean de Dieu Mulenda, followed closely by Vital Nsunzu with 5%. However, a large part of the population does not yet know who to vote for, and 21% say they do not support any candidate. The results highlight the importance of voter education, especially among women and older voters, and the need for political discourse that meets voters’ expectations. These elections are crucial for the consolidation of democracy in the DRC, and this poll contributes to the public debate ahead of the December 2023 elections.
