### Diabetes in children in the DRC: an urgent appeal for action
The Democratic Republic of Congo faces a disturbing rise in pediatric diabetes, a disease traditionally associated with adults. A recent report of the National Diabetes Fighting Program underlines an alarming trend: type 2 diabetes, fueled by urbanization and a diet rich in sugars, affects more and more children. Almost 20% of young people in urban areas consume sugary drinks daily, increasing their risk of chronic diseases.
The warning signs, such as excessive thirst or inexplicable fatigue, should be taken seriously. Awareness of parents and schools is crucial to avoid serious consequences. Early screening programs in Kinshasa are already showing encouraging results, allowing rapid management.
Supporting children living with diabetes requires an integrated approach, including good nutrition, regular physical activity and psychological support. It is a social problem that requires collective mobilization to promote healthy eating habits and ensure a serene future for future generations. Because each child suffers from this disease has dreams to realize, and it is our responsibility to help them reach them.
