In conclusion, the implementation of these new strategies shows the government’s determination to deal with insecurity in Kinshasa and to make the city safer for its inhabitants.

In a village in the Walendu-Bindi chiefdom, an argument between two witch doctors sparked riots, leading to the loss of human lives and the destruction of houses. The dispute broke out after a drunken evening, when each of the witch doctors claimed their superiority. The reprisals quickly degenerated into riots between local youths and those from another group. The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) of the DRC has taken steps to ensure the independence of its electoral operations. It now prohibits the presence of agents of the Ministry of the Interior, Security and Customary Affairs in the offices for the reception and processing of applications (BRTC). This decision is based on the constitution and the organic law of the CENI which guarantee its independence. The CENI collaborates with other institutions but refuses any interference in electoral operations. Only DGRAD agents are authorized to facilitate the payment of application fees. The CENI reminds candidates of the deadlines for submitting applications and does not foresee any extension.
