In a recent article, we look at the worrying situation of insecurity in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. With an upsurge in kidnappings and the presence of criminal gangs, fear and psychosis have gripped the city’s 17 million residents. However, the provincial government led by Gentiny Ngobila reacted by putting in place new strategies to fight against this scourge. Checkpoints will be erected throughout the city, mixed patrols will be organized and the police have already arrested several alleged kidnappers. These measures bear witness to the authorities’ desire to eradicate insecurity and restore tranquility in the metropolis. However, it is also stressed that the comprehensive and long-term approach is needed, including socio-economic improvements and access to education to address the root causes of this problem. In conclusion, the implementation of these new strategies shows the government’s determination to deal with insecurity in Kinshasa and to make the city safer for its inhabitants.
