In this article excerpt, we address the persistent challenges to the rule of law in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Despite President Félix Tshisekedi’s efforts to reform the judiciary, corruption and political interests continue to influence the judiciary, thus preventing the establishment of an independent and impartial judiciary. In addition, criticism is increasing about the instrumentalization of justice to silence dissenting voices and political opponents. The President calls for reforms to remedy these dysfunctions and to strengthen public governance and the rule of law. Despite the obstacles, he remains determined to bring about a fair, transparent and impartial judicial system. The defense of the rule of law is essential for the Democratic Republic of Congo, and this cannot be done without strong and independent justice.
