The International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) held its 10th extraordinary summit in Luanda, Angola on Friday, June 2, 2023. The organization has called on the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to accelerate the program disarmament in the eastern region of the country to resolve the ongoing conflict. The summit also called for the reopening of all access roads and assistance for the internally displaced. SADC has deployed a Standby Force to support peace and security efforts in eastern DRC. The Congolese government is working to restore security in the part of the country that was unable to participate in the general elections scheduled for December 2023.

The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) wishes to fight against illicit financial flows in Africa by actively participating in the recommendations of the African Union High Level Panel. The DRC has been exposed to illicit financial flows due to its important geostrategic position and has therefore set up an Interministerial Committee composed of institutions to combat this phenomenon. The Agency for the Prevention and Fight against Corruption (APLC) of the DRC, organized a workshop to assess the implementation of the recommendations of the high-level group to fight against illicit financial flows in Africa. The objective is to fight against corruption, restore value to the local economy and reduce the considerable financial losses recorded on the African continent.

The political crisis in Niger following the coup continues to escalate. A delegation from ECOWAS, led by General Abdulsalami Abubakar, will travel to Niamey to attempt mediation with the putschists. At the same time, the chiefs of staff of the member countries of ECOWAS are meeting to discuss a possible military intervention. The decision to intervene aims to restore constitutional order and a precise roadmap has been drawn up. International leaders are doing everything to promote stability in Niger, but military intervention is not excluded if the putschists do not respect the ultimatum set by ECOWAS. The situation remains tense and requires special attention.
