The United States is stepping up its humanitarian assistance to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with an announcement of $48 million. This aid aims to meet the urgent needs of people affected by the crisis in the DRC, particularly in the east of the country. It brings total US aid to nearly $486 million for this fiscal year. The DRC is facing armed conflicts, massive population displacements and difficulties in accessing basic services. This aid aims to support the most vulnerable and at-risk populations by providing food aid, health care, psychosocial support, shelter and drinking water. This announcement demonstrates the continued commitment of the United States to the Congolese people during this time of crisis. During her official visit to Kinshasa, the US Under Secretary of State also discussed the security situation in eastern DRC and the ongoing electoral process with the Congolese President. The United States and the DRC are committed to promoting transparent and fair elections and to working together to that end.
