** The fate of the AGOA: between economic issues and diplomatic balances **
AGOA, or growth and opportunities agreement in Africa, has transformed the commercial landscape for around thirty countries in sub -Saharan Africa since its launch in 2000, by providing them with preferential access to US markets. However, while this agreement is approaching its renewal deadline, concerns emerge, exacerbated by the shadow of protectionism, in particular that of former president Donald Trump. This uncertain climate highlights the importance of redefining economic relations between the United States and Africa. While initiatives such as the continental African free trade agreement (AFCFTA) are gaining momentum, African countries must prepare to sail in a constantly evolving commercial environment, by combining resilience and innovation. Faced with these challenges, the voice of African nations and their ability to unite will be essential to forge a sustainable economic future.
