The Social Protection and Decent Work Program in the DRC was officially launched by the Minister of Labor and Social Welfare, Claudine Ndusi M’Kembe. Set up by the Belgian Development Agency-Enabel, this program aims to promote decent work and strengthen social protection in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It mainly targets women and youth, and covers various sectors such as commerce, agriculture, services, mining and job search. With funding of 16.2 million euros over 5 years, the program aims to guide 12,000 people towards decent work, inform more than a million people about their rights at work, and train 5,000 people with standards and rights at work, and to carry out more than 1,300 labor inspections. In addition to promoting decent work, the program also aims to strengthen social protection by providing information on the benefits of social protection, providing better social protection to 50,000 people and supporting 2,400 pregnant women. Collaboration between the Congolese government and Belgium is essential for the implementation of this program, which will help reduce poverty and create jobs in the DRC. It is part of the DRC’s Country Program for the Promotion of Decent Work (CPTD), aiming to combat social inequalities and promote inclusive social dialogue. In short, the launch of this program marks a significant step forward in efforts to promote decent work and strengthen social protection in the DRC. It will create employment opportunities for women and young people, provide information on rights at work, promote social protection and encourage inclusive social dialogue.
