Regional integration, peace and sustainable development are major priorities for the African Union. During the recent ordinary session, African leaders reaffirmed their desire to strengthen ties between member countries and foster effective cooperation. Regional integration contributes to economic growth, prosperity and political stability in the region. The African Union is also committed to strengthening existing regional institutions and promoting the sustainable use of natural resources. Security cooperation is strengthened to counter cross-border threats such as terrorism and arms trafficking. Commitment to these goals is an important step towards a better future for Africa, but there is still work to be done to make them a reality.
