China has promised to support the DRC in the implementation of its military programming law to strengthen the operational capacity of the Armed Forces. This military cooperation between China and the DRC could result in joint exercises of the armed forces as well as enhanced exchanges in the areas of peace and security. However, as the DRC experiences increasing repression of political opposition, some fear a possible militarization of the country. The security situation in the DRC therefore remains precarious and requires a comprehensive approach including political and economic reforms to allow the stabilization of the country.
