The National Drug and Illicit Trafficking Agency (NDLEA) recently organized the graduation ceremony of the 16th batch of the Senior Officers Basic Course. In a speech delivered on the occasion, the director of the agency, Mr. Marwa, reminded the new cadets that they were now responsible for the fight against drugs and illicit trafficking in the country.
Marwa stressed the importance of remaining faithful to the ethical principles of the agency and not compromising the set objectives. He stressed that society cannot afford to slow down its efforts in the fight against substance abuse and drug trafficking, and urged the cadets to prepare themselves mentally for the task ahead.
He also noted that the world of illicit drugs has become increasingly complex and the situation has become increasingly serious in Nigeria over the past 30 years. This is why it is crucial that new agents are adequately trained to face these challenges.
The graduation ceremony is part of the ongoing restructuring process within the agency, with the aim of strengthening its workforce to effectively combat drug abuse and trafficking. Cadets have been trained to be effective drug law enforcement officers, which requires sacrifice, loyalty and discipline.
Marwa also highlighted that the agency has adopted goal-oriented programs and effective mechanisms to combat drug abuse, such as the Offensive Action and War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy.
Finally, he expressed gratitude to the Plateau State Government for providing a conducive environment for the four-month training.
Overall, this event marks an important milestone in the fight against drugs and illicit trafficking in Nigeria. The agency’s new cadets are ready to take on the challenges that await them and contribute to cleaning up society from the ravages of illicit substances. The NDLEA continues to play a vital role in the prevention and reduction of drug abuse in the country.
