Training on disarmament and international security in the DRC: Capacity building for more effective action
The National Committee for Disarmament and International Security in the Democratic Republic of Congo (CND-SI) continues to be actively engaged in strengthening the skills of its experts. With this in mind, a training session on disarmament and international security was recently organized in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The objective of this training on disarmament was to equip participants with solid skills in this area, with emphasis on respect for international humanitarian law and international legal instruments related to disarmament. For two days, CND-SI experts had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and familiarize themselves with the arms trade treaties as well as the Kinshasa Convention on small arms and light weapons.
This capacity building session is part of a series of training courses launched last February by the Congolese Prime Minister, with the aim of strengthening the effectiveness of disarmament implementation structures in the country. Indeed, it is essential that the experts who work in this field have the necessary skills to carry out their mission.
The ICRC played a key role in this training by providing its expertise and leading advocacy for the ratification of the arms treaties. As an organization responsible for promoting international humanitarian law, the ICRC considers that disarmament is a crucial issue for preventing conflicts and protecting the victims of war.
This initiative by the CND-SI and the ICRC demonstrates the commitment of the Democratic Republic of Congo to disarmament and international security. By strengthening the capacities of its experts in this field, the country positions itself as a key player in promoting a more secure and peaceful world.
Disarmament and international security are major challenges facing the international community. By organizing training and strengthening the skills of experts, the DRC is taking an important step towards achieving these objectives. It is essential to continue supporting and encouraging such initiatives to ensure a better future for all.
