The shocking circumstances of the murder of opposition MP Chérubin Okende continue to spark outrage and misunderstanding in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Former Prime Minister Adolphe Muzito and his party, the New Elan, reacted to this tragedy by comparing the events to a real horror movie.

In a statement released Thursday, July 13, Nouvel Élan Secretary General Blanchard Mongomba expressed his party’s dismay at the tragic death of Chérubin Okende. The situation remains unclear, with conflicting versions circulating, and Muzito supporters are asking for clarification.

Adolphe Muzito and his supporters also demand that the competent authorities speed up the ongoing investigations in order to determine the responsibilities and punish the perpetrators of this heinous act. They express all their sympathy towards the family of the deceased and his political party.

According to the testimony of Chérubin Okende’s bodyguard, the latter was kidnapped on Wednesday July 12 before the Constitutional Court. Unfortunately, the next day, his bullet-riddled body was found. Since then, the body of the former spokesperson for Ensemble pour la République has been kept in the mortuary of the Cinquantenaire hospital.

This act of political violence deeply shocks the Congolese population and raises many questions about the security and stability of the country. The opposition, human rights organizations and civil society have unanimously condemned this assassination, demanding that justice be done.

In this time of mourning and outrage, it is important to remember that political violence can only bring more suffering and division. It is imperative to find peaceful solutions to political disputes and to guarantee the security of all citizens.

The Democratic Republic of Congo faces many challenges, but it also has the potential to grow and prosper. It is crucial that political actors work together to strengthen democracy, ensure justice and promote national reconciliation.

In conclusion, the murder of Chérubin Okende is a new reminder of the need to put an end to political violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo. We must work for a peaceful and prosperous future for all Congolese, in order to build a country where peace, justice and stability reign
