Road rehabilitation constitutes a major challenge for regional development. This is the observation made by the population of the city of Gungu, in the province of Kwilu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, who organized a peaceful march on Tuesday, November 14 to demand the renovation of the main road linking Batshamba-622 to Kakobola , passing through the city of Gungu.
This road, 70 kilometers long, is currently in an advanced state of disrepair, making it impossible for vehicles and motorcycles to travel. Civil society, through its president Joachim Kusamba, denounces the fact that a company, called AFRITEC, in charge of the rehabilitation work since last July, has only completed 2 kilometers of the road, and these are of poor quality. quality.
The impact of this situation is considerable for the population of Gungu, because this road is the only way in and out of the city. It makes it possible to transport agricultural and manufactured products essential to the daily lives of residents. Thus, the paralysis of this road has consequences on the supply of goods, but also on the mobility of people.
Faced with this critical situation, the population of Gungu organized a peaceful march to make their voices heard. In a memorandum read at the end of the demonstration, the population asks the competent authorities to take immediate measures to rehabilitate this road, thus guaranteeing the fluidity of commercial exchanges and the well-being of the inhabitants.
The situation on the Gungu road is unfortunately not isolated in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Many regions of the country suffer from the consequences of the lack of maintenance of road infrastructure, which hinders economic and social development. It is therefore essential that the authorities take concrete measures to address these problems, paying particular attention to road rehabilitation.
The peaceful march of the people of Gungu is an example of citizen mobilization to defend fundamental rights such as access to quality infrastructure. By supporting this cause, the people of Gungu are asking to be listened to and hope to see concrete actions taken to address their concerns. The renovation of the Batshamba-Kakobola road is an essential first step towards the development of the region and the improvement of the living conditions of the population.
