Efforts to establish peace in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo remain a priority for France, Ambassador Bruno Aubert said during a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo. The implementation of the Luanda roadmap and the Nairobi process constitutes the guiding thread of all ongoing action. France welcomes the ongoing regional diplomatic mobilizations, and will participate in the Goma meeting as an observer.
Furthermore, military and defense cooperation between France and the DRC is considered important and could develop in new areas. In June 2022, a second Special Jungle Combat Battalion was formed by French and Congolese instructors, marking France’s commitment alongside the DRC for the exercise of its sovereignty.
The situation in the DRC remains complex and fragile, but it is encouraging to see an international will to find lasting solutions to ensure the stability and development of the country. France, through its active role in the peace process, hopes to contribute to this process and fully supports the ongoing efforts.
