Ukraine in the grip of an escalation of violence: tensions and attacks are increasing

Images of war in Ukraine: the situation is becoming tense again

Tensions in Ukraine are at their peak again as the capital kyiv is the target of a missile, ending two months of relative calm. At the same time, border regions are facing a wave of Russian drone attacks. The situation is critical and the country is once again plunged into a climate of war.

Last Saturday, Ukraine commemorated the first anniversary of the liberation of Kherson, a large city in the south of the country which had been occupied for eight months by the Russian army. This significant event symbolizes Ukrainian resistance to Russian aggression. Unfortunately, since this liberation, Ukraine has faced formidable Russian defenses and daily bombings.

Indeed, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky, the number of Russian attacks continues to grow. Nearly 40 drones and missiles were reportedly fired against Ukraine between Friday evening and Saturday morning. Fortunately, the Ukrainian military says it managed to shoot down 19 of 31 Russian attack drones sent overnight.

However, the capital was not spared. Two loud explosions were heard in central kyiv on Saturday morning, prompting the city to be placed on air alert. Fortunately, no major material damage has been reported, but this shows that the situation is extremely precarious.

In parallel with these attacks, the Russian army is still seeking to surround the town of Avdiïvka, in eastern Ukraine, and take control of a strategic factory. This offensive has been going on for a month and has already caused the death of two civilians.

This escalation of violence in Ukraine is extremely worrying and the consequences could be disastrous. It is essential that the international community intervene and help Ukraine confront this Russian aggression. The Ukrainian people deserve to be protected and live in peace in their country. Let us hope that diplomatic efforts and a peaceful resolution to this conflict can be found quickly.
