“The investigation into Star of David tags in the Paris region is progressing. The Paris prosecutor has appointed an investigating judge to carry out an in-depth investigation into these acts of degradation. Around sixty blue Stars of David have been discovered on the walls of buildings in Paris, as well as in the departments of Seine-Saint-Denis and Hauts-de-Seine.
The possibility of a foreign sponsor is also being considered in this affair. According to the prosecutor, it is possible that these tags were made at the express request of a person residing abroad. The motivations behind these acts also remain to be determined, particularly with regard to their anti-Semitic nature. The magistrate underlines the importance of analyzing the geopolitical context and its impact in France to assess the intention of the perpetrators of this damage.
Investigations carried out so far have identified three suspects involved in this case. It is a man and a woman who made the tags and a third person who photographed them during the operation. Investigators also established a link with another case where a couple from Moldova had been arrested for making a similar tag. This couple claimed to have acted on the orders of a third party and for remuneration.
Investigations are therefore continuing to shed light on this matter and determine responsibilities. Collaboration between the different public prosecutors’ offices in Bobigny, Nanterre and Paris makes it possible to broaden the scope of research and highlight possible ramifications abroad. It is essential to identify the sponsors of these acts of degradation and bring them to justice.
This case once again highlights the need to combat anti-Semitism and acts of religious discrimination. The French authorities must be vigilant in the face of such manifestations of hatred and do everything possible to ensure the security and protection of all religious communities present on the national territory.”
