Tour of Europe: An eventful evening in the Champions League with surprises and unexpected qualifications

EUROPEAN TOUR: A contrasting Tuesday for European football clubs

Tuesday was full of emotions and twists and turns for European football clubs involved in the Champions League. If some managed to validate their ticket for the round of 16, others experienced disappointment.

Manchester City confirmed their domination by winning their fourth consecutive match against Young Boys Bern. Thanks to a double from Erling Haaland and a goal from Phil Foden, the Sky Blues assured their qualification without surprise.

In Group G, RB Leipzig also validated their ticket for the next round thanks to their victory against Belgrade. Notably thanks to a superb goal from the nugget Xavi Simons, on loan from PSG. The young Dutchman showed off all his talent by scoring a solo goal that will be remembered.

On the other hand, FC Barcelona missed the opportunity to qualify by conceding a surprising defeat against Shakthar Donetsk. The Catalans, who had the advantage of only needing a draw, were surprised by a goal from Sikan. This defeat places Barça at the top of Group H alongside Porto, while Donetsk remains in contention for qualification.

On the Spanish side, Atletico Madrid had a real festival against Celtic Glasgow. Antoine Griezmann and Alvaro Morata each scored twice to allow their team to win 6-0. This victory allows Atletico to consolidate its first place in Group E, ahead of Lazio Rome who avenged their previous defeat by beating Feyenoord.

Finally, in group F nicknamed “the group of death”, Paris SG lost its leading position by losing to AC Milan. The Parisians opened the scoring thanks to a goal from Skriniar, but Milan quickly equalized through Leao before taking the lead with a header from Giroud. Despite the domination of Chelsea, who beat Newcastle 2-0, Dortmund took the lead of the group thanks to collective goals and a solo raid from Brandt.

This evening in the Champions League once again proved that anything can happen on the football pitch. The qualifications for the round of 16 are played out until the end and there are many surprises. The next matches therefore promise to be rich in suspense and intensity, to the delight of football fans.
