“The Democratic Republic of Congo favors diplomacy in the dispute with Rwanda, but is preparing for a military front if necessary”

The issue of aggression by Rwanda and its M23 auxiliaries in the Democratic Republic of Congo continues to fuel debate and concern. Faced with this situation, the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, recently mentioned various measures envisaged to deal with it.

In a special program organized by the Presidency of the Republic, President Tshisekedi stressed that he first favored a diplomatic approach to resolve this dispute. According to him, diplomatic pressure exerted on the Rwandan regime would yield positive results. However, he also clarified that if Rwanda and the M23 did not cooperate, a military front would be the last option considered.

The Congolese head of state said he had built the capacity of the Congolese army in anticipation of this eventuality. He also stressed the importance of preserving diplomatic relations between the two countries, while maintaining pressure on the Rwandan regime.

It is essential to note that President Tshisekedi considers the issue of armed groups, in particular the M23, as a short-lived problem. He therefore encourages his government to continue efforts to pacify eastern DRC, while maintaining a firm stance against any belligerent attempt.

These statements by President Tshisekedi highlight his willingness to resolve the dispute with Rwanda by peaceful means as much as possible, while showing his determination to protect the sovereignty and security of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Pending a diplomatic resolution, it remains to be hoped that tensions between the two countries will decrease and that peaceful solutions can be found to put an end to this worrying situation
