The Congolese Armed Forces are facing the threat of Mobondo assailants in the provinces of Maï-Ndombe and Kwango, in the west of the country. This militia, born of the conflict between the Teke and the Yaka, represents a real threat to the security of the Congolese population and even to the capital, Kinshasa.
According to information from the Congolese government, the armed forces have intensified their efforts to track down the Mobondo attackers and restore peace in the region. Military operations led to the capture of several rebels and the seizure of weapons.
During an ambush led by the FARDC (Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo) at the Pont Kwango post, 19 combatants were captured and 12 12-gauge rifles and 8 machetes were recovered. In addition, the leader of the Mobondo assailants, Kafuti Badimilwana alias “American”, was arrested in the province of Maï-Ndombe.
The Congolese government reaffirms its determination to mobilize the necessary resources to end this violence and restore State authority in all regions of the country.
These events are proof of the persistent insecurity in parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, highlighting the need to strengthen efforts to guarantee the safety of local populations. The situation requires a multidimensional response, combining military operations with development initiatives and the resolution of the land disputes that are at the root of this violence.
It is essential that the Congolese government continues to work closely with the armed forces and the international community to put an end to this threat and guarantee security and stability throughout the country. The Congolese people need to live in peace and to be able to envisage a better future for themselves and their children
