Congolese Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge received on May 11 a delegation of senators from the provinces resulting from the dismemberment of the former Eastern Province, namely BAS-Uélé, Haut-Uélé, Ituri and Tshopo. The objective of this meeting was to present various development issues in these provinces such as insecurity, the issue of road infrastructure, and artisanal mining.
Senator Alphonse Ukeci Muswa Rundi stressed that this interview went well, and that the Prime Minister was very attentive to the grievances presented. He said that appropriate solutions would be found to solve these problems. The Senator also explained that insecurity remains a major issue for the provinces of the Grande Orientale which are suffering from the invasion of artisanal mining areas by the Chinese, land disputes and urban banditry. In the province of Bas-Uélé, the Central African rebels Séléka, Mbororo herders and the LRA are at the root of this situation and have taken more than thirty children hostage.
The provincial senators have requested the urgent involvement of the central government to avoid any worse situation that could happen to the populations of these corners of the country.
The issues presented by these senators are not unique to these regions. Indeed, security instability continues to persist in several regions of the country. However, the Congolese government is gradually addressing these issues and implementing solutions to ensure the economic development of the most vulnerable regions.
In particular through field visits, regular contact with local authorities, and even economic recovery projects for certain regions, the Congolese authorities are seeking to improve the situation and protect the population.
It is important to emphasize that the Congolese government must continue to be involved and make efforts to face the challenges of insecurity and economic development in these most vulnerable regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
