“Kinshasa: Kidnapping convictions shake the city – NGO calls for transfer of culprits to remote prison”

The following article is an overview of the latest news regarding the situation in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. It focuses on the kidnapping affair which shook the capital and the conviction of the culprits by the Tribunal de grande instance of Kinshasa/Gombe. The NGO “The Dynamics of the Fight against Human Trafficking and Human Trafficking” now requires that convicts serve their sentences in a prison far from Kinshasa.

Kinshasa has recently been the scene of shocking criminal acts, including kidnappings, murders and armed robberies. The perpetrators of these crimes were mainly young men and women who operated in taxi cars, known as “Ketch”. They demanded large sums of money in ransom, threatening to kill their victims if the families did not pay.

Following the trial in flagrance, the Kinshasa Court handed down sentences, ranging from the death penalty to penal servitude. Defendants will also have to pay damages, or face a penalty of penal servitude in the event of non-payment.

However, the NGO DCTH considers that the convictions are not sufficient to guarantee the safety of the population. It therefore asks the authorities to ensure that the convicted persons are transferred to a prison located far from Kinshasa, in order to avoid any risk of recidivism or complicity within the city.

This affair has sown terror among the population of Kinshasa, causing a real psychosis. Locals are now wary of taxi cars, leading some to post warning messages on social media.

Yet, despite the arrests and convictions, some doubt that the real masterminds of these crimes have been apprehended. There is therefore still much to do to ensure the security of the people of Kinshasa.

In conclusion, it is essential that the authorities take additional measures to guarantee the security of the population of Kinshasa. The transfer of convicts to a distant prison seems to be a legitimate request from the NGO DCTH. It is important to act quickly to restore confidence and ensure the peace of the population
