Training of members of polling and counting stations in the DRC for the December 2023 elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) continues to make progress in the implementation of its electoral calendar in view of the elections scheduled for December 20, 2023. As part of this preparation, the CENI has launched level 2 of the training cascade for members of polling and counting stations as well as members of local results compilation centers.
The training, lasting 10 days, takes place in the capitals of the country’s 26 provinces and aims to enable participants to master the procedures relating to voting, counting and tabulation operations. The areas of training also include the use of the electronic voting device (DEV) as well as the filling out of forms and the preparation of electoral results.
According to Paul Muhindo, deputy rapporteur of the CENI, this level 2 training is distinguished by its practical approach. Participants will be subjected to simulation exercises and will have the opportunity to practice the different electoral procedures. The aim is to ensure that participants master all the necessary tools for the elections of December 20, 2023.
The organization of this training marks an important step forward in the electoral calendar of the DRC, which also resulted in the publication of provisional lists of candidates for the presidency of the Republic and the start of accreditation operations for witnesses, observers and journalists.
The CENI affirms its commitment to respect the constitutional deadline and to guarantee transparent and credible elections. This move demonstrates the commission’s determination to make elections a reality rather than just a dream.
In short, the training of members of polling and counting stations as well as members of local results compilation centers constitutes a crucial step in preparing for elections in the DRC. The CENI continues to progress its electoral calendar and demonstrates a strong commitment to the holding of free and transparent elections on December 20, 2023.
