“Democratic Republic of the Congo: Lifting of Covid-19 measures and questioning of the management of the funds collected”

The Congolese government announces the lifting of restrictive measures linked to the Covid-19 pandemic and the cancellation of the PCR test obligation for unvaccinated people leaving the country. This decision comes after several months of deliberations between the Prime Minister and the multisectoral committee for the response to Covid-19.

The lifting of these measures raises many questions in Congolese public opinion. What is the financial impact of this operation since its launch and what are the funds raised used for? How do these funds enter the public treasury, especially those collected abroad?

However, the Deputy Minister of Public Health, Hygiene and Prevention, Dr Serge Olene Obe A Nzem, declares that his ministry is not competent to answer these questions. It returns responsibility to the technical secretariat for the management of Covid-19.

Despite these outstanding issues, the Deputy Minister assures that the measures will be lifted by the end of the week, following the signing of a decree by the Prime Minister. He also specifies that the WHO now considers Covid-19 as an ordinary flu and has removed it from the list of public health problems, thus justifying the lifting of restrictive measures.

This decision to lift the restrictive measures linked to the Covid-19 pandemic represents a major change for the Congolese population. However, it is important to remain vigilant and to continue to respect the barrier gestures and the recommendations of the health authorities in order to prevent the spread of the virus.

In conclusion, the lifting of restrictive measures linked to Covid-19 in the Democratic Republic of Congo raises questions about the management of the funds collected. Despite this, the government is preparing to sign a decree to cancel the obligation of the PCR test and end the restrictions. It is essential that everyone remains cautious and continues to take the necessary precautions to protect their health and that of others
