“Commemoration of the Popular Uprising in Burkina Faso: Burkinabés gathered for a better future”

Burkina Faso is preparing to commemorate the Popular Uprising of October 30 and 31, 2014, a historic event which ended the reign of President Blaise Compaoré. Despite the threats made on social networks, a collective of civil society organizations is maintaining its rally planned for October 31.

This gathering, which is not a demonstration but rather a meeting, aims to challenge the transitional government on the issues of security, cost of living, governance and corruption. The leaders of these civil society organizations denounced the verbal threats and calls for murder broadcast on social networks, while regretting the manipulation and disinformation surrounding this event.

Faced with the opposition that has formed against this gathering, the authorities have not yet reacted, which raises concerns on the part of the collective. However, organizers say they have received assurances from security forces that measures have been taken to avoid possible clashes during this gathering.

The CGT-B collective also filed a complaint against the perpetrators of threats and those who spread defamatory information. According to Moussa Diallo, general secretary of the CGT-B, these threats strengthen their determination to demonstrate to express their quest for freedom, justice and equality among the Burkinabés.

In anticipation of this event, several articles have already been published on the blog to inform the public of the issues and importance of this commemoration. Images of the 2014 Popular Uprising rally are also available to relive the highlights of this historic event.

Burkina Faso thus demonstrates a desire to remember its past and take a stand for a better future. The October 31 rally will be an opportunity for Burkinabés to make their voices heard and continue to fight for a more just and egalitarian society.
