Draft decree submitted to fix the designations of the academic grades of the LMD system in the DRC
The evolution of the Higher and University Education system in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) continues. The minister in charge of this sector, Muhindo Nzangi, recently presented to the Council of Ministers a draft decree aimed at fixing the names of the academic grades of the License-Master-Doctorate (LMD) system in the country.
This draft decree constitutes a crucial step in the implementation of Framework Law No. 14/004 on National Education of February 2014, which introduced the LMD system in the DRC. By completing the regulatory framework of this educational reform, the Congolese government seeks to harmonize the designations of the degrees of graduates of higher education and university establishments in the country.
The objective of this harmonization is multiple. First of all, it aims to clarify and simplify the system in the DRC, thus allowing a better understanding of the diplomas awarded and greater transparency for students and employers. By promoting the harmonization of the Congolese system with international standards, this reform also intends to strengthen the recognition of Congolese diplomas abroad.
The proposal for this draft decree is also in line with the objectives of the Government Action Program 2021-2023, which attaches particular importance to the reform of the higher and university education system. By aligning the designations of academic grades with international standards, the DRC is positioning itself as a major player on the global educational scene, thus promoting the attraction of foreign students and cooperation with international institutions.
Minister Muhindo Nzangi underlines that the adoption of this draft decree represents a significant step forward in the reform of the Congolese education system. By establishing clear and harmonized designations, the DRC will improve the quality of its higher education and strengthen the confidence of students and employers in the diplomas awarded.
The reform of the LMD system in the DRC is an essential step to modernize the Higher and University Education sector and allow Congolese students to access quality education, in line with current labor market requirements.
The final decision regarding the adoption of this draft decree will be taken by the Council of Ministers. In the meantime, the DRC continues its efforts to improve the structure and recognition of its higher education, thus contributing to the development of the country and the development of its youth.
