“Controversy surrounding the compulsory sale of school uniforms: parents of students at the Tukubaba Institute in Matadi are demanding action”

The controversy surrounding the compulsory sale of uniforms at the Tukubaba Institute in Matadi is currently making a lot of noise. Parents of students at this Adventist approved school denounce the practice of forced sale of school uniforms, calling into question the instructions of the EPST ministry.

According to several testimonies from parents, the school prefect repeatedly refused access to students who were not wearing the official uniform sold in the establishment. The latter, consisting of a blue-white suit displaying the insignia of the Tukubaba Institute, is sold at the price of 25,000 Congolese francs (10 USD). In addition, a polo shirt is also compulsory for students, and its acquisition costs 20,000 Congolese francs (17.5 USD).

This coercive sale of uniforms has aroused indignation among parents of students who believe that this violates the directives of the Ministry of EPST. They demand that the authorities take measures to end this practice.

The prefect of the Tukubaba Institute, Davin Mukanda, refuted the parents’ accusations, while the director of the Kongo Central 1 educational province, John Bopilo, affirmed that an investigation would be carried out and that sanctions could be taken if the allegations were proven.

It is important that educational authorities enforce the instructions issued by the Ministry of EPST in order to ensure a peaceful return to school for all students. It is also essential to ensure that school uniform expenses remain reasonable and accessible to all parents.

Emphasize the importance of transparency in the management of school supplies, encourage dialogue between parents, schools and educational authorities, and promote policies that promote inclusion and equal opportunities for all students are key measures to ensure quality education.
