Title: “The new Kasumbalesa customs post: a major step forward in the fight against fraud”
Introduction :
The modernization of customs infrastructure is at the heart of the concerns of the President of the Republic, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo. With this in mind, the Kasumbalesa customs post, on the border with Zambia, recently underwent a major renovation. Under the leadership of the General Directorate of Customs and Excise (DGDA) and thanks to a partnership with a specialized Congolese company, this modernization aims to strengthen the fight against customs fraud and maximize State revenue. Let’s discover together the details of this major breakthrough.
An imposing building for efficient customs services:
The new Kasumbalesa customs post is distinguished by the construction of a modern building of 2,600 square meters. This houses the services involved and is equipped with all the necessary operational equipment. This large-scale infrastructure makes it possible to improve the speed in the processing of customs files and accelerates the rotation of vehicles. In addition, bonded warehouses, two large-capacity import-export car parks and accommodation for customs officers have also been built. These developments facilitate the work of customs agents and strengthen border control.
A fruitful collaboration with TRAFIGO SARL:
The realization of this project was made possible thanks to the collaboration between the DGDA and the Congolese company TRAFIGO SARL. Led by Magalie Kayitesi Raway, this company provided its expertise and equity to finance customs infrastructure. Thanks to a reliable and secure, 100% Congolese system for maximizing customs revenue, the DGDA was able to see a significant increase in its revenue. In fact, from the first year of implementation, these revenues increased on average by 700 to 1,000%. This success can be explained by the use of efficient tax and royalty traceability software, transparent procedures integrated into the banking system and management focused on ethics and training of human resources.
A model to follow in the fight against customs fraud:
The modernization of the Kasumbalesa customs post constitutes a real textbook case in the fight against customs fraud in the sub-region. The secure channeling of state revenue makes it possible to mobilize the resources necessary to meet the challenges of this strategic border. In addition, this initiative encourages Congolese female entrepreneurship, by highlighting the public-private partnership and the success of Magalie Kayitesi Raway at the head of TRAFIGO SARL.
Conclusion :
The modernization of the Kasumbalesa customs post marks a significant step forward in the fight against fraud and the maximization of customs revenue in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Thanks to the involvement of the DGDA and TRAFIGO SARL, this modern infrastructure makes it possible to improve the efficiency of customs services, while strengthening border controls. This exemplary project paves the way for other similar initiatives and encourages Congolese female entrepreneurship.
