Rehabilitated agricultural roads in Mwenga, South Kivu: new hope for smallholders
In South Kivu, in the territory of Mwenga, the Mwami Kalenga Riziki Lwango, accompanied by the quaestor of the Provincial Assembly, Dr Kalafula Byakusaka Moza Son Ishiba, launched this Tuesday, October 17, 2023, the rehabilitation work on the service roads agricultural. An initiative that aims to facilitate market access for small farmers and improve agricultural productivity in the region.
The rehabilitation work will concern several villages, including Mwenga center, Kibumba, Ngando, Bilalombili, Mizulo and Bisembe Iyoko. Once completed, these roads will allow the flow of agricultural products from production centers to consumption centers, such as Kamituga and Mwenga-center, or even to Bukavu, the capital of the province.
To carry out this work, the non-profit association “Amani na Maendeleo” was tasked with carrying it out, with technical support from the South Kivu Agricultural Service Roads Office. This collaboration between local and institutional actors demonstrates the commitment to agricultural development and the improvement of transport infrastructure in the region.
This initiative was welcomed by the consultation framework of the Civil Society of the Mwenga territory, which sees it as a means of promoting market access for small farmers, reducing transport costs and increasing productivity. agricultural. Indeed, roads in good condition facilitate the transport of agricultural products and allow farmers to market their crops more easily.
The rehabilitation of agricultural service roads in Mwenga is therefore part of a global approach aimed at developing the agricultural sector and improving the living conditions of local populations. It will help to boost the local economy, by promoting trade and opening new opportunities for farmers.
