The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is taking an important step in favor of state agents and civil servants. Indeed, following the conclusions of the Joint Government-National Inter-Union Commission of Public Administration, it is possible that the Professional Income Tax (IPR) will be reduced from 15% to 3%. This measure would result in a significant increase in the base salary, of around 45%, for all categories of civil servants.
In a context of economic constraints and loss of purchasing power of state agents, this decision by the Government provides welcome relief. The work of the Joint Commission took place from September 11 to 15, 2023 in Kinshasa, under the coordination of Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge.
This reduction in the IPR will make it possible to support the purchasing power of civil servants while relaunching the retirement process.
