“Rural women in South Kivu face limited access to new technologies: an obstacle to development”

Rural women in South Kivu struggle to develop due to limited access to new technologies. This reality was highlighted during the meeting of the African Union Agriculture Commission, which was held in Nairobi (Kenya) on October 15, on the sidelines of the International Day of Rural Women.

According to Solange Kwindja, general director of the Heshima Coffee cooperative, rural women in the DRC face many obstacles related to access to new technologies. They lack connection and knowledge about technological advances in the world, which limits their development.

In addition to these technological difficulties, rural women face obstacles such as access to agricultural financing and land. The degradation of agricultural service roads and the lack of industrial infrastructure are also problems which hinder their progress in the province of South Kivu.

It is essential to put in place initiatives aimed at facilitating access to new technologies for rural women in South Kivu. This would allow them to connect to the rest of the world, benefit from new opportunities and access essential information to improve their agricultural practices.

In addition, it is necessary to strengthen access to agricultural financing for these women, in order to give them the means to develop their activities and contribute to the economic growth of the region.

In conclusion, limited access to new technologies constitutes an obstacle to the development of rural women in South Kivu in the DRC. Steps must be taken to overcome these barriers and enable these women to fully benefit from the benefits offered by technological advances. This will help them improve their living conditions, strengthen their agricultural activities and contribute to the development of their community.
