The Kongo River Festival 2023: a major cultural event
This Wednesday, July 5, 2023, the residence of the Swiss Ambassador hosted the launch of the activities of the 3rd edition of the Kongo River Festival. This major event will be held from July 11 to 16, 2023 in the province of Kongo Central, more precisely in Muanda. The icing on the cake, this edition will be itinerant, thus highlighting the ecotourism and cultural potential of the region.
The Kongo River Festival aims to enhance and protect the waters of the Congo Basin, as well as to promote the socio-economic development of the country through an eco-responsible exploitation of these natural resources. Vincent Kunda, initiator of the festival, expresses his enthusiasm for this milestone event: “This is an exceptional edition. We are going to highlight the ecotourism and cultural potential of Kongo Central with serious professionals and partners. We will also celebrate the Congo River with renowned artists during the festive part entitled “Kiese Kongo””.
The Kongo River Festival has received support from many partners, including the Swiss Embassy. For Casper Sarott, Swiss Ambassador to the DRC, this project is of particular importance: “The Kongo River Festival has become emblematic. It is an event that highlights the water basin of the Congo River and the protection of its environment. As a resident of this emblematic river, I am delighted to support this initiative”.
The activities of the festival will take place in several stages. From July 11 to 12, a tourist circuit entitled “La Route des Esclaves” will allow you to discover the emblematic sites of the region. From July 13 to 14, a scientific conference will highlight the role of the Congo River as a driver of ecotourism and sustainable development for local populations. Finally, from July 14 to 16, the festive part “Kiese-Kongo” will offer a varied musical program and fun activities on the magnificent beach of Muanda, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean.
The Kongo River Festival aims to make Congolese people aware of the beauty of their country and the richness of their cultural and natural heritage. This traveling edition will make it possible to promote Kongo Central, but also to prepare the ground for future editions in other provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Together, we can give a better image of our country and promote responsible and sustainable tourism. The Kongo River Festival is a unique opportunity to celebrate the diversity and richness of our country
