“The quest for peace: President Tshisekedi’s efforts to resolve the security crisis in eastern DRC”

The security situation in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo continues to cause serious concern. During a joint press conference with his South African counterpart, President Félix Tshisekedi once again pointed the finger at Rwanda as the source of instability in the Greater Kivu region. According to him, the Rwandan president has always denied his country’s responsibility in the aggression against the DRC, denying the involvement of his army and presenting the armed groups as Congolese in rebellion.

This statement by Félix Tshisekedi highlights the persistent tensions between the DRC and Rwanda, two neighboring countries whose relations are often marked by mutual accusations. The Congolese President underlined the difficulty of negotiating with Rwanda in such a situation, where the latter mandates armed groups to the negotiating table, despite their Rwandan affiliation.

In addition, Felix Tshisekedi also noted the problems related to the East African regional force deployed in the region. He criticized the behavior of this force vis-à-vis peace agreements and treaties, highlighting collusion between certain contingents and elements of armed groups, thus facilitating the collection of illegal taxes. Discussions are underway with the leaders of the countries concerned to find solutions and take action by September.

It is important to underline the commitment of President Félix Tshisekedi to resolve the security problems in the East of the DRC. Despite challenges and accusations, he seeks peaceful solutions and seeks to strengthen regional cooperation to ensure stability and security in the Greater Kivu region.

In conclusion, the issue of security in eastern DRC remains a major challenge for the country and its neighbours. Tensions between the DRC and Rwanda continue to weigh on the situation, but President Félix Tshisekedi is actively seeking solutions to bring peace and stability to the region
