“End of race”: immerse yourself in the satirical world of Kash, the cartoonist who denounces Congolese political news

The National Museum of the DRC was the scene of the launch of the latest collection of caricatures by Congolese illustrator and press cartoonist Thembo Muhindo Kashauri, alias “KASH”. Entitled “Fin de course”, this work brings together the artist’s political drawings, allowing him to paint a sharp portrait of Congolese news.

Continuing his tradition of sketching with humor and insight the failings of political actors, Kash addresses in this collection varied themes such as the disappearance of political leader Étienne Tshisekedi, insecurity in the east of the country, or the reign of Joseph Kabila . Through powerful drawings, the artist manages to express the dissatisfaction of a suffering people and to denounce the abuses and weaknesses of political figures.

Professor Hilaire Mbiye, during a reading of the work, underlines the structure in seven chapters, thus facilitating the understanding of the title. It also highlights the unsaid aspects of Kash’s work, which reveal the explanation of the ills of Congolese society through the prism of entertainment and laughter. For the artist, satirical drawing is a means of denouncing the injustices, anxieties and discouragements that drive the author.

“Fin de course” also engages in the fight against the dehumanization of the Congolese people by being an intentional communication tool, illustrating key events in Congolese political history between 2012 and 2018. Like a journalistic chronicle, it traces the facts and events chronologically, thus offering a captivating historical account.

Alongside the launch of the book, the prize giving ceremony for the “Draw Me Peace” competition was also held, testifying to Kash’s commitment to tolerance and national harmony.

Kash, emblematic figure of Congolese caricature, affirms that creative freedom is essential for any artist. Having received numerous awards both in the DRC and abroad, he has cultivated his passion for drawing for more than 30 years, combining his talent as an advertising designer with his career as a caricaturist. His works have been exhibited in many countries, testifying to his international reputation.

With “Fin de course”, Kash offers the reader a journey to the heart of Congolese political news, through the prism of satirical drawing. His piercing gaze and humorous style allow him to denounce injustices and highlight the problems of Congolese society. A collection to discover for all fans of political satire.
