Artists and cultural actors have an essential role in the economic and social development of a country. It is with this in mind that Barbara Kanam, General Director of the Cultural Promotion Fund (FPC), recently underlined the importance of increasing the revenue of her establishment during the 7th edition of Expo-Béton in Kolwezi, in DRC.
Barbara Kanam highlighted the FPC as a real lever for the economic growth of the DRC. She raised awareness among architects and economic operators present at Expo-Béton on the payment of the “Ad valorem” royalty, which constitutes a source of financing for the promotion of culture.
The Expo-Béton event, under the theme of “Kolwezi-Lualaba, Eldorado of the Southern Corridor of the DRC-SADC”, was an opportunity to reflect on urban development and infrastructures linked to multimodal transport, housing , energy supply, industry, consolidation of economic relations and regional integration. The participation of the Head of State, Félix Tshisekedi, marked the closing of this major event.
Barbara Kanam’s commitment to the cultural and economic development of the DRC is also visible in her approach to the media. Last August, she called on the media to pay the royalties due to the FPC, in order to contribute to the promotion and financing of cultural projects.
It is important to recognize the fundamental role of culture and art in the development of a country. The involvement of Barbara Kanam and the FPC in raising awareness among economic actors and the media is a step towards better promotion and greater recognition of the cultural sector in the DRC.
Thanks to events like Expo-Béton and awareness initiatives, the FPC and Barbara Kanam contribute to promoting Congolese culture and encouraging its economic development. Culture is a real lever for growth and national identity, and it is essential to support the actors who work to promote it.
