“Act 2023 United for Democracy: an ambitious project for transparent elections and a strengthened civic society in the DRC”

The “Act 2023 United for Democracy” project launched in Kinshasa aims to promote informed and responsible participation in the electoral process in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Initiated by the Center for Studies for Social Action (CEPAS), the African Institute for Economic and Social Development (INADES) and the Congolese Ebuteli Research Institute, this project also benefits from the support of the Union European.

The main objective of this project is to educate the Congolese population in democratic culture and minimize the risks of electoral violence. The director of CEPAS, Father Alain Nzadi-a-Nzadi, emphasizes that the idea is to guide stakeholders so that they adopt responsible behavior during elections. He emphasizes the importance for citizens to choose representatives capable of leading the country towards its much-desired development.

INADES Formation, a partner in this project, works in collaboration with other institutions to strengthen civic education and educate voters about responsible and peaceful participation. Norbert Kimvula, director of INADES, underlines the need to make the December 2023 elections transparent, credible, peaceful and inclusive.

This project is not limited only to the electoral period. It aims to establish a continuous civic culture and support the Congolese nation beyond the 2023 elections, with emphasis on the post-electoral period.

The ultimate objective is to guarantee transparent and peaceful elections, but also to promote sustainable democracy in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Thanks to this project, local actors and citizens will be better informed, aware of their rights and duties, and will have the capacity to fully exercise their role in the democratic process.

By working together, CEPAS, INADES and the Congolese research institute Ebuteli actively contribute to the construction of a Congolese society that is more involved, responsible and aware of its power to choose leaders who meet the country’s development aspirations. This project represents an important step towards stronger democracy and lasting political stability in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
