Resumption of activities in Bunagana after the takeover by M23 terrorists
For more than a year, the town of Bunagana, in the province of North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, had been under the control of M23 terrorists. However, good news has just been announced by the military governor of the province, Lieutenant General Constant Ndima: the imminent resumption of activities in Bunagana.
In a letter addressed to the provincial administration, the military governor asks all civil and military entities concerned to take the necessary measures to re-equip the border, under escort of the force of the East African Community (EAC). This decision follows an assessment report of the Bunagana border post, carried out by the Regional Force of the Community of East African States.
The official document indicates: “I hereby inform you of the resumption of your activities in the coming days, as soon as the prerequisites identified by the Regional Force have been completed”. This means that the various administrations, such as the National Intelligence Agency (ANR), the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), the General Directorate of Customs and Excise (DGDA), the Congolese Control Office (OCC) and the Congolese National Police (PNC), will be able to return to their posts in Bunagana after their descent on the spot accompanied by the Regional Force of the EAC to establish an inventory.
This decision is an important step towards restoring security and normalcy to Bunagana, which had been troubled by the presence of M23 terrorists. The resumption of activities will help restore order and promote economic development in the region.
It is essential to emphasize that this announcement is a victory for the Congolese authorities in their fight against the armed groups that are rampant in eastern DRC. This demonstrates their determination to restore peace and security in the region, in collaboration with regional forces and international partners.
The resumption of activities in Bunagana marks an important step in the reconstruction and stabilization of the North Kivu region. This shows that despite the challenges they face, the Congolese authorities remain committed to ensuring the security and prosperity of their country
