Political discussions continue to punctuate the news in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). After meeting with opposition leaders and Adolph Muzito, President of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), Denis Kadima, current President of CENI, invited former President Joseph Kabila to participate in these discussions. The objective is to review the current electoral process and propose solutions.
This invitation follows Denis Kadima’s desire to meet the various political actors in the country in the context of the upcoming elections. He specifies in his correspondence addressed to Joseph Kabila that contacts have already been made with other opposition leaders for the same purpose.
However, the Front Commun pour le Congo (FCC), the political family of Joseph Kabila, has set certain conditions for participating in the elections. In particular, they want a “consensual” CENI leadership team, a “non-subordinate” Constitutional Court and an “inclusive” electoral law. According to the FCC, these conditions have not yet been met and they denounce an electoral process marred by fraud and shortcomings.
Faced with this situation, the FCC decided not to support President Félix Tshisekedi in his “fraudulent” election project. They believe that these elections could have dramatic consequences on democracy and the future of the Republic.
The ongoing discussions between Denis Kadima and Joseph Kabila therefore represent an important step in trying to resolve political tensions and find consensual solutions to guarantee fair and transparent elections in the DRC.
This situation once again shows the complexity of the Congolese political landscape and the need for continuous dialogue between the various actors to promote a stable and peaceful democratic transition.
In conclusion, the ongoing discussions between Denis Kadima and Joseph Kabila, as well as with other opposition leaders, are a crucial step in trying to resolve the tensions and differences around the electoral process in the DRC. It is essential that all political actors engage in constructive dialogue to ensure fair and transparent elections for the Congolese people
