Review of projects in the World Bank portfolio: What impact on the development of the population?
The Congolese government questions the effectiveness of the portfolio of projects allocated by the World Bank to the development of the population. While this increased from 2.5 billion to 8.5 billion dollars between 2018 and 2023, it is time to carry out a careful review of these projects to assess their true impact on the lives of the Congolese.
It is in this context that the work of the review of projects in the World Bank portfolio in Kinshasa is taking place. This review will make it possible to analyze in detail each project financed by the World Bank and evaluate their contribution to the socio-economic development of the country.
Among the subjects examined during this review, we find the question of salary arrears of agents and executives of the General Directorate of Revenue of the Province of Ituri in Bunia. The beneficiaries of these projects must also account for their use of the allocated funds, in order to guarantee total transparency in their management.
At the same time, the Heshima Coffee cooperative in Bukavu is organizing a tasting of its coffee products, highlighting the agricultural potential of the region. This event is part of the world day celebrated every October 1, which aims to promote the consumption of local products and to promote the know-how of Congolese producers.
This review of projects in the World Bank portfolio also comes during the DRC Agribusiness Forum, organized in partnership with the ministries of Agriculture and Finance as well as the International Finance Corporation. This event brings together investors, experts and government officials to promote investment in the agricultural sector in the DRC. The objective is to promote the agricultural transformation of the country, which is largely dependent on the mining industry.
It is therefore crucial to conduct this review of projects in the World Bank portfolio to assess their true impact on the economic and social development of the Congolese population. The aim is to ensure that these projects truly meet the needs of local communities and contribute to reducing poverty and inequalities.
In conclusion, it is important to learn lessons from this review of World Bank projects in order to improve their effectiveness and their impact on the country’s development. This requires greater transparency in the management of funds, as well as a participatory approach that involves local communities in the design and implementation of projects. Only in this way can we truly achieve the sustainable development goals and guarantee a prosperous future for the Congolese population.
