According to Tshela District Police Chief Jules Mizontz, several houses in the Tshela shopping center collapsed due to rain and flooding. The central provincial government said local governments, humanitarian organizations and non-governmental organizations responded to the emergency by burying the bodies. The Central Congo provincial government said at least 50 people had been killed. Flooding in South Kivu in March 2015 killed 14 people. A national highway was cut in the Simu-Lubuzi area. The Lubuti River flooded the Simlubuzhi community, destroying around 50 homes. Jules said he didn’t want his car to be in the same place as another car. Many victims have yet to be identified and a full damage assessment has yet to be conducted. The Madudu district of Tshela commune is located in the center of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Parts of the city were still covered in mud and debris from the floods. The curfewed Maduda region produces agricultural products that are supplied to major consumption centers such as Matadi and Kinshasa. Local authorities reported that several international ports, schools and medical centers were submerged. This photo was taken by the Congolese Capital Provincial Government. The prime minister said teams would continue to search for bodies in the mud amid fears that more bodies would be found. On January 1, 2023, the Boma Moanda Highway became impassable due to rain and the water level in the river rose rapidly in about two hours. After more than 1,000 homes were destroyed, 10,000 people were left homeless. Publicists reported that it rained in the Tsela shopping center from 15:00 to 21:45.
