News: Electoral fraud in the DRC – The Congolese people unmask a new strategy
On July 2, 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was forced to make an update following the discovery of a new strategy of electoral fraud orchestrated by the regime of the Sacred Union in favor of candidate Félix Tshisekedi. This revelation was made possible thanks to the foresight of the Congolese people.
Indeed, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Peter Kazadi, signed a mission order deploying a battalion of executives and militants of the presidential party in the Offices of Reception and Processing of Candidatures (BRTC) of the CENI. The aim of this action was to condition and control all the candidacies for the national legislative elections, by eliminating the candidacies of the opposition.
In response to this government interference, the CENI tried to denounce this interference in the management of electoral operations through a press release. However, it is clearly established that this action is part of a fourth strategy of massive fraud planned by the regime of President Félix Tshisekedi.
Previous fraud strategies have included making unauthorized enrollment kits available to create fictitious voters, refusing to display voter lists, and refusing an external audit of the voter register.
This new revelation highlights serious problems with the electoral process in the DRC. The confidence of the Congolese people in this process is strongly shaken and questioned. The situation calls for action by the political leaders of the Sacred Union to avoid an imminent wreckage of the electoral process.
Moreover, it is crucial that opposition leaders be wary of Denis Kazadi Kazadi, a man who is clearly involved in electoral fraud at all levels. The talks initiated by him are only an attempt to protect himself from the consequences of his actions.
In conclusion, CASE, as a civil society organization, urges President Félix Tshisekedi to dismiss Minister Peter Kazadi for intentional violation of the Constitution and undermining the independence of the CENI. It is also essential that measures be taken to restore the confidence of the Congolese people in the electoral process and guarantee the transparency and integrity of the upcoming elections.
